Design thinking has been a huge success in the last few years with a host of companies and government agencies who-heartedly embracing this new creed. It is an approach creatively packaged promising quick resolution of problems using the creative resource of each enterprise. Tempting for all !
However, Design thinking has become too much of a buzz word over the last few years, and instead of understanding its real strengths, companies have started just using it like an operational six sigma process to maximise its efficiency.
The fundamental problem is the need to link Design Thinking to similar implementation approaches (co-creation). Its often not just the innovative ideas which are needed but the cultural evolution of creating buy-in and mobilisation as well as developing more participative management approaches which are needed to revolutionize the work place.
